The Algarve has activities throughout the region that mix entertainment and activities for all ages. When the sun is not shining, this is the perfect time to explore some alternative attractions until the weather improves, which will not be long in coming as the Algarve has 300 days of sunshine a year.
Enjoy!
FEEL THE NATURE
Animals show themselves not only during the high season in the Algarve, and getting closer to nature is an excellent way to spend a day in the region whatever the time of year.
If you like to enjoy nature, the Ria de Alvor is an estuary between Lagos and Portimão and its 1700 hectares include the estuary, dunes, salt marshes and salt flats that are an international tourist center. It was designated as a Natura 2000 site due to the presence of priority species and habitats at European level. It is a very important ornithological crossing point of the Atlantic - East migratory corridor.
The Ria de Alvor is a small area with delicate environmental balances.
You can also explore the Serra de Monchique or go to East Algarve where you will find the Ria Formosa Natural Park, or to the West where you can walk on pedestrian circuits to take a look at flora and fauna. Sagres is a paradise for birdwatching-as it is a crossing point for migratory birds - in the caves, with the fishermen and from viewpoints. It is on the Costa Vicentina with spectacular scenery and the most beautiful sunset in the Algarve.
GOING OFF-ROAD
Why not drive off-road into the wild on a 4 × 4 Jeep Safari?
Some of the most beautiful parts of the Algarve are not accessible by car and if you prefer not to use the power of the pedal then the best way to see the real rural Algarve is on a jeep ride.
Jeep tours are excellent, leaving you free to see more and travel more with experienced guides pointing out local landmarks and wildlife.
EMBRACE THE WIND
The Barlavento Algarvio is well-known for having winds, especially along the coast, perfect weather for many activities, including surfing, as it builds and creates huge waves.
Out of the high summer season, the winds come to whip along the west coast of the Algarve, so instead of trying to fight them it is a great idea to let them hug you!
If extreme sports are what you're looking for then on the beaches in the vicinity sports like Kitsurf and Surf let you try them out.
ALL THIS IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT ONLY THE ALGARVE CAN PROVIDE!
